GVI Partners with Aqua Clara
March 5, 2009GVI will adopt water filter technology created by non-profit organization Aqua Clara International for its Water and Hygiene program in Lao Cai province, Vietnam. Aqua Clara’s technology is simple and sustainable and can be built using materials that are readily available in Lao Cai province. | Aqua Clara president Bob MacDonald recently traveled to GVI’s headquarters in Keller, TX, to train volunteers on building the water filters. The filters, or “reactors,” purify water through different grades of sand, rock, and bacterial layers. | It is estimated that water filters can be built for approximately $20-30, which could provide a household with clean water for everyday use for 10 years. GVI is in the process of developing a pilot program that will see test filters built in July 2009.
