GVI and Manna Worldwide have partnered together to develop and sponsor a program that supplements the diet of children at Sponsor Society No. 3 (SS3), a state-run orphanage and foster home. The program supplements their diet with fresh milk, meat, and other proteins, all of which were lacking in their previous diet. Formula powder is provided for infants. | Funding is provided by Manna Worldwide, while GVI staff oversee the program. SS3 director Hoang Anh Duc has said that the program has made a noticeable impact on the growth of the children at the centre. He expressed his appreciation for the efforts of GVI and Manna Worldwide. | Many state-run entities are caught in the ‘growing pains’ of Vietnam’s transition from a strict-planned economy to one that has adopted free-market principles along the same lines as China. Centres like SS3 have to make do with meager budgets that barely provide for basic needsand have to face increasing competition from a growing private sector.
